MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

MHI is looking for an experienced Marine Painters. Depending on skill level, some of the job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Analyzing the job from start to finish ensuring proper and safe work methods used.
  • Preparing wood, fiberglass, and metal surfaces for painting by mixing solvents according to formula and immersing parts in solution or washes surfaces to remove grease, rust, scale, and dirt using applicable techniques.
  • Filling cracks and holes.
  • Mixing and matching colors of paint, varnish, stain, shellac, and calcimine.
  • Operating spray-painting equipment or brushes or rolls paint on surfaces.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of Five years of experience in marine coatings and/or combination of marine and industrial coatings field. C12, C7, C14 or NBPI certification required.
  • Must have the ability to carry out written or oral instructions and analytical skills to resolve issues.
  • Must be able to use all abrasive blasts systems, spray pumps, spray booth, shop overhead crane, air compressor, forklifts, man lifts boom type and scissor and some Q.C. test instruments.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others.
  • Must be steady, reliable worker
